Cassie: “Where do you want to eat?”
Me: “Cafe Zen”
There was a time where that conversation wouldn’t end with a laugh but with an “oooh, let’s go”. See, Cafe Zen had been referred to us as some of the best sushi in the city. I tried it and I agreed. The Spicy Tuna Roll being perhaps one of the best things on the menu. We have visited there a lot. Facebook memories from my birthday will contain many memories from Zen. The first time we brought Thomas we completely forgot food for him. We figured that we would feed him edemame and hope for the best. He devoured them. Later we brought Henry and laughed as he chewed on a lemon unphased. Valentine’s Day, Birthdays, or simply being hungry it was always a good day to go to Zen. (Except for our anniversary. They were closed the first week of July every year for the holiday).
This of course all came to an end one day in March of 2016. The exorcist comes to mind when I think of how horrible I had food poisoning. I couldn’t bring myself to eat sushi for months. I still have not gone back since those miserable days. A place full of great memories is no longer someplace we can go because I won’t risk another bout with that mess.
But we will always have pictures and videos to remember the good times by.
